We humans have one of the most complex body structures which comprise our Mind, Body, and Soul. We might not be the world’s largest, larger than the Blue Whale. Or the strongest creature, stronger than the African Elephants.
We ain’t the tiniest, smaller than the microbes. Or the fiercest, fiercer than the mighty Lions. But we are still superior to all the living beings on this planet.
There is no equal being present in this world in comparison to us. We are the most intelligent race of biological creatures ever to inhabit the world. This makes us the super beings of this planet far above all other beings that inhabit and share this world together with us.
It is one reason we humans have been dominating this planet for centuries now.
So what makes us so special and dominating?
Well, the answer is quite simple, i.e. our powerful mind, one that can perform the impossible. Our body, one that is a complex structure made up of cells, tissues, organs, and systems. And our soul, one that never breaks down easily.
These three components when combined together can do great things. There’s a unique coding unlike any other that connects these three components together and function as a single being. Some explain it in a more natural way as these three entities share an intimate relationship.
Today in this article we shall understand the three components i.e our mind, body, and soul from a different dimension. We shall understand the individual functionalities of these components and how they are intertwined together to form the world’s most complex and successful system. So lets’ get started.
Unlike some creatures who are born and have evolved to be without mind over time, we humans are gifted with genius minds. The human mind is often considered as an entity of our brain that facilitates consciousness(being aware of one’s surroundings), imagination(ability to create different ideas about different things and experiences), perception(the ability to see, feel, hear, or become aware of something), thinking(the process of considering or reasoning about something), judgment(the ability to make processed decisions), language(means of communication), and memory(ability to retain, store, and recall information). The ability to think about all sorts of stuff, reason what’s good and what’s bad, and apply knowledge in real-time is what our mind does.
But there are some others who believe and argue that the human brain is merely an organ for the mind. This is further explained as a child is born with an empty brain but not an empty mind.
The mind is composed of information, reasonings, and forms that are processed in the brain. Our mind can manifest itself when the time comes and resides within a layer of consciousness.
The human mind is also considered to be the most powerful tool which when utilized to the fullest can make the impossible possible. Our mind is the place where new ideas are developed at first. It is also closely related to our thoughts (humans self-conversation).
Thoughts allow us to shape our world in the way we see fit. It also helps us to deal with the things happening in our world and ultimately achieve our goals and ambitions.
Scientists often make assumptions that the human mind and human souls are singe entities and not two. But it is debatable one and we have come up with a separate segment titled “Mind and Soul” to discuss further.
The human body is the structural form of we human beings which consists of distinct parts namely the head, neck, trunk, arms, and legs. It is a complex structure that is made up of different types of cells(trillions of them), tissues(four different types of tissues), organs(structured collection of cells that perform a specific task), and systems(ones that operate our body altogether).
Our body is a well-functioning machine and has evolved over time to function more efficiently. The human body much like any other machine needs proper care. One way of taking care of your body is by eating healthy food.
Our soul is often considered as the God-given essence that exists in both living and non-living things. It is also considered to be the spiritual nature of mankind. Many religions also claim that the soul exits our body at the time of our death.
The way we behave towards others has something to do with our soul. Many believe our soul has something to do with our heart and not the brain. It might well be true since the emotions that we experience such as love, hate, and joy are often related to the heart and not the brain.
The existence of the soul as a separate entity along with the brain is not scientifically proven. It is however backed up by many scholars as a separate entity and they even have gone to the length to consider it as the most important entity of we human beings.
So we might as well not question the existence of the soul as a separate entity. it is more closely connected to spirituality and religion.
Body and Mind
Our body and our mind are intertwined together forming a loop that sends and receives continuous feedback. A healthy body is a healthy mind likewise, a healthy mind is a healthy body.
You cannot expect to have a healthy body when you got an ill mind. It is just not possible. All these ill thoughts that cover your mind is going to hamper the way your body functions.
If your mind is sick even the simplest of your daily routine activities becomes a challenge for you to perform. Even when the body is in perfect shape, you will most likely get bedridden.
On the other hand, if you’ve got a sick body, it is likely to cloud your mind. You cannot have clear thoughts. Decision-making becomes a challenge for you and even when you manage to make a decision, it might not be the right one after all.
It is because of all these facts that many physicians and psychologists suggest that you eat healthily and exercise regularly in order to stay healthy. It’s a proven fact that a healthy mind and a healthy body co-exist.
Body and Soul
This is probably the most contradictory of all. Many scholars of their time have proposed different theories of their own on the matter. Some argue that the soul is the body’s spiritual matter and it cannot be compared with the body which is an actual matter. It is just so contradicting and thus have been argued by scholars since the early times.
Others have come up with another explanation on the matter saying that the human body is dependent on the soul while the soul is independent of the body. If this is to be believed then the human body cannot function without the soul whereas the soul doesn’t need the body to exist.
The soul, however, should not be confused with the spirit of the body. Since the spirit is defined as the inner force that gives direction to the person. The spirit might also be considered as a dynamic force and is often described as a mover.
Well, no matter how contradicting the matter of soul and the body might be, they still have a special kind of relationship between them. A human is basically made up of two things i.e. a body and a soul. The body is the home to the soul. The soul is bare without a body to reside on. The soul thus should honor its home(Body).
Mind and Soul
The human mind and soul are explained as two different entities by the ancient scripts. They even have different words to describe the mind and the soul. Sanskrit has a word for the human mind called “manas” and the soul is called “Atman”.
Another major differentiating factor can be that the soul is complete from the time of birth whereas the mind is not. The mind being dependent upon its organ (brain) since it too is as blank as it can get, the mind is not formed yet. It gets its shape from the information that the brain processes over time from around its surroundings.
The human mind can also be compared to an advanced processing system. It can only learn those things that you teach. You can teach it anything and it will learn no problem. The human soul, on the other hand, is as complete as it gets since the time of birth. It doesn’t grow nor does it shrink. It is independent of what you do and rather is what you are.
When we die, our brain dies along with us but the soul departs. It doesn’t die along with our body rather it is invisible, indestructible, and is immortal. Some even go to the length to say that one can be without a brain but not a soul. Even if your brain doesn’t admit that there is a soul residing within your body, your soul does admit being together with the brain.
Mind, Body, and Soul
Now that we know the interdependence of these three entities, it becomes much clear to us that they share an intimate relationship. A healthy person is not without these three entities. When you take care of your body, it helps to take care of your mind and the soul.
Likewise, when you keep your mind calm, it helps you to nourish your body and the soul. Lastly, when you become aware of your soul’s existence it helps you take care of all the obstacles within your mind and opens a way to an ocean of Spirit.
